Students of Polytech Tours meet the President of the Centre-Val de Loire Region

Saturday, October 14, 2017, students of Polytech Tours participated in Blois at the 17th International Cooperation Meeting in the Center-Val de Loire region. This event is organized every year, for companies, associations and local authorities which carry out projects in the countries of the global South.

In 2017, the event was devoted to the Sustainable Development Goals, which were adopted by 200 countries in 2015 and are now to be implemented. Four objectives - access to water and sanitation, preservation of aquatic environments, sustainable cities and the fight against climate change - renew and amplify the demand for technical expertise for the realization of integrated development projects. This opportunity to develop business and international employment is particularly relevant to students in the Department of Planning and Environment of Polytech Tours.

The delegation of Polytech Tours was composed of 4 students of the International Research Master Planning and Sustainability, 2 PhD students and 2 staff, Christophe Demazière and Michel Bacchi, professor in urban planning and associate professor in ecology. The students come from Brazil, Congo, Lebanon, Togo or Tunisia. Already holding a diploma of architect, urban planner, environmental engineer or geographer, they asked questions in plenary and took part in the afternoon workshops. The academics spoke as key witnesses to the workshops "Sustainable Cities and Communities" and "Clean Water and Sanitation". The event was also marked by the intervention of Mr Emilien Amblat, from the Agence Française de Développement, who explained how this organization provides financial support to French local authorities in their projects with their partners all over the world.

The six students were pleased to meet with François Bonneau, President of the Center-Val de Loire Region, and Charles Fournier, Vice-President for Democracy, Citizen Initiatives, Rural Development, Cooperation and Equality.
